I Am An Idiot ...

This discussion is meant 'mainly' for my valued friends here, but everyone else can feel free to jump in too. I'm still at my sister's of course, and my eighteen year old nephew had just come upstairs a short while ago. He said good morning, and asked how our play was last night. I shared 'the tragic story' of my loss from the previous evening with him. He was very sympathetic. *** Please see my previous discussion (started this morning). Anyway, to cut to the chase here, so to speak, my sister came downstairs and was about to make a phone call. She sat down on the couch, next to the fireplace seat, and spotted my ring laying there behind a stack of dvd's. I'd obviously taken it off, to use some hand lotion that was there, before we even went to the play. The title of this topic, is what my sister 'good naturedly' called me, and I agree in this case. We're both rejoicing at this amazing discovery! By the way, my 21 year old niece was upstairs getting ready for work, when she heard the commotion. She ran down to make fun of me, raz me, etc. etc., but could only point and laugh due to the 'whitestrip' on her teeth. I'm really in for it here now, for the rest of the week, and beyond I'm sure. We're a very close family, and we love to tease as it is, but we're not mean spirited about it, as it's just fun. I'm just so overjoyed, I don't even care, what an a$$ I was. Have you ever done anything so foolish, like putting people to a lot of trouble, when there was no need to? Have you ever been absolutely ecstatic to find an item you thought was lost, when in fact it wasn't? By the way, so far today, I haven't received 'any' notifications ... so frustrating. At this point, it appears as though nobody has even seen my first discussion.

Well thats good news at least. Its always nice find out youve been stupid if it results in getting something back that is important to you. I once lost my keys and we spent hours looking for them and we even yelled at the kids thinking they had hid them turned out when i was packing up some candy for work i left the keys in the candy bowl my son found it when he was drooling over the candy i wouldnt let him have. I did let him have a piece after that lol.

And in answer to your question, I've lost and found so many things in my life that it's just too many to count or remember. And believe me, I've gotten my share of razzing and teasing about it from friends and family. LOL

Hey 'mom what fantastic news - I am so pleased for you that you have your ring and never mind that you made a mistake, that is part of life and we all get a bit confused sometimes! I am sure that you will be teased about this for a long time to come but as you say it is worth it to feel the relief that you still have the ring! I know I have done this with lots of things in the past and will no doubt do something similar again! This may sound silly but my most treasured possession is my Mums DUX medal, which meant she was the best student in her school, perhaps it is like a Valedictorian there? Anyway cos I can't remember my Mum this means the world to me and although I very rarely take it out I would be devestated if I lost it! xxx

i havent lost anything of such value just yet... but i do have a problem of 'misplacing' things and then i've 'lost' them... many times i would be such a big hype about 'losing' my favourite brooch, or my purse,.. make everyone in the house to help look for it... and later.. we would find somewhere else.. most of the time because i had totally forgotten that i removed it from where i 'thought' i had kept it... so nowadays.. whenever i think i 'lost' something... i just keep my mouth shut.. look high and low for it... re-trace every step... try very hard to remember what i did.. where i went.. where i stopped.. just wish i am not soooo forgetful...

I know that feeling, I thought I'd lost my wallet a while ago. I looked everywhere and was close to cancelling my cards, then I spotted it on the floor. A more recent thing was when I thought I'd lost my mobile phone after getting home from work. I searched everywhere in the house, went to two local payphones which weren't working. Begged the local garage to let me use their phone to call my workplace to see if anyone had found it. I then got in my car all frustrated, checked around the car halfheartedly and found it under the passenger seat. Hmmmmm not my brightest moment!

LOL--I just replied to your first discussion about the ring...LOL...BUT HEY!! That's great news that you found it and that you hadn't been wearing the ring in the first place when you thought you lost it. There's a saying my great-grandmother used to say that nothing is ever lost....not really. There have been plenty of times I've lost some item..usually a piece of jewelry too...I nearly turn the apt. inside out looking for it, to no avail...then maybe months pass by and I'm doing one of my super duper cleaning chores and find it tucked way under the sofa, or bed or somewhere else...my suspicions it that one of my "darlings" that is kitties may have batted it under the sofa..

Yes I've experienced this many times. Many times I've misplaced something really important and later because of my absent mindedness, I forgot the place where I kept it and than starts the real trouble. I become very tense and even sometimes shouting at others and accusing them of misplacing that thing. Everybody else in tha family also come in tension and start searching that thing. But this search sometimes ends happily but many times it meet a tragic end also as I never find the misplaced thing. But then I always repent my foolishness and accept my mistake in front of other family members.
