I would highly recommend it if he's tried all the other methods of losing weight. I've been down that road and finally gave in and had the surgery Open RNY surgery not the band system. Personally, I think the one I had is better and studies have proved it. Luckily I didn't have any problems after the surgery. However, I found out that I wasn't truly ready to change my life even though I had a major surgery in which to do so. I lost like 130 lbs, didn't follow the rules and gained most of it back. Consider the fact that the surgery is only a tool it's not a free ride to better health. Then I finally woke up, changed my eating and exercising habits for good, followed the rules and guess what!? It worked!! I'm on my way back to my original weight loss. To make a long story short, if he's ready to change his life once and for all, ready to listen to what the doctor has to say and willing to work hard, he will be a success! Also, men seem to do better at losing weight anyway with this surgery! Another plus! I'm a female and have seen men have more success then women. Not all, it's up to the individual, of course. If he decides to go for, I wish him all the success in the world. It's not going to be easy on either of you, be prepared.
