Friend or Me?

hey guys.. What do we do if we are waiting for a thing since years and your friend is also waiting for it.. And one fine day you get to know that you both may get it but there are chances that only one of us both may get it.. There is this thing that you want both you and your friend to get , very desparately and you get to know this that it may happen that one of us can get it.. so at such point of time do i back out from getting that thing or be positive and think that we both migh get it. And the situation is if my friend gets that thing and i dont i'll be doomed and if i get it and my friend ddoesnt i will be shattered. i want both of us to get it. and its possible. Its not related to boyfriend, its a thing that both of us can get but chances are low.. what do i do?
