Grandparents raising their grandchildren.

Lately I have been hearing more and more about grandparents who are faced with the task of raising one or more of their grandchildren due to the children's parents getting divorced, being on drugs, in rehab, in prison or some other reason. What are your views on this? Do you think the statistics are getting higher? Have you, or someone you know been faced with this decision? I appreciate any and all comments.
