Anyone else's dog do this type of behavior

Alright... so i have a golden retriever who is 5 years old, and we recently got 2 new kittens... The kittens are around 9 months old and our Golden Retriever has started licking the male kittens ear. It is quite annoying and he does it all the time. The cat lets him so im not sure he doesnt like it. The only problem is is that it seems to be getting a little obsessive and it makes the cat smell like dog spit. Any thought on why he is doing this... ????
