sometimess being over specialized at something is rather boring, so there are people who need to do more than one thing, do be specialise alone is enough. If you think about the distribution of labour, and realise that each person studies a part of a whole and they becomes so into the one part that they forget the other part. some people do two fields to study a part in a whole, but actually that part is the important of the whole.

For me, thats not weird if we having second degree.. it depends from ur interest about that subject u take. Maybe someone will say, too heavy doing two degrees in one time or after u get degree. It depends on you. There lot of benefits if we having more degrees, it shows ur credibility to master many fields and better compare if u just have one Phd. But,even u dont have any degrees, it also being good. Why ?? If u likes reading alot of book. U got many knowledge, info and so on. Recognise from degrees are only the names... So, keep reading and share what u got with another people. :)

In the UK you don't really have a second field of study, if you do they are usually combined so you don't have double the workload. I don't think I would have survived uni if I did two!
