How often do you visit your dentist?

Pretty good Question because most of my friends just go to the dentist if they can not tolerate the pain of their toothache. To be honest, I'm scared to see my dentist. I have a lady dentist who is very good and kind, nothing to be afraid of but.. when I see the needles/sirens..(am I using the right term?) I am really nervous. I was able to overcome it though. But I have a friend who never go to the dentist even if she suffered pain almost every night. Her toothache bothers her so much but never go and see the dentist. She said it will really scare her to death. Oh my goodness!! suppose to be we have regular visit to our dentist but because of fear.. we suffered pain. How about you? I think it is a matter of training when we are yet kids? Kids who are used to see their dentist are not scared but adults who never visit the dentist when they are young? are having a hard time overcoming their fear. can you share your story on this.

I absolutely hate the dentist - that being said I go every 6 months like it is recommended. I have learned that if you don't go you have a greater chance of a problem. Teeth don't heal themselves so if you have a cavity - it will only get worse. I make my next appointment when I am leaving, if I don't I won't go back, so I make my appointment and right it on my calandar. I make sure all of my kids go every 6 months. I started all of them going when they were 18 months or so and they have gone ever since and they have no problems going to the dentis. My 3 and 5 yr olds love to go. I have tried to be a good example and I want to keep all of their teeth healthy.

I have to say that the exact same think happens to me.. I don't wanna go to the dentist unless the pain don't let me sleeps by nights.. Right now my teeth aren't perfects and I know that I have to go to the dentist, but still I don't go.. Maybe is the pain that causes the instruments that inserts into my mouth.. I really don't know..

Hi Bebs, I had my braces and retainers before so, each month I need to see my dentist for cleaning and changing of rubbers! This time, when I got here, I haven't tried seeing a dentist yet! I want to check our insurance if we can use it in any of the dentist here since I have my denture and I want to have a regular cleaning! I know it's very expensive here unlike in our Country!

Exactly right!! tooooo expensive here. The expense of filling 1 tooth here is equivalent to having brace in the Philippines.. I never had one yet since I am here. Unfortunately, my tooth jacket was removed when I chew gum (chewing gum) that was unfortunately done. My hubby said we will go to the dentist to put it back but I said, no.. anyway, it doesn't hurt if it will not be put back.. thinking of the expense? Oh!! dear..We cut off our health insurance this time because of the left and right expenses we have. Anyway, I am just looking forward to that day when I can go back to work and have dental aid.. like what I had before. have a nice day.

I am just riding my hubby's insurance this time but we are having also a lot of cut offs here to save because their bills here are left and right, unlike in our Country, we can live simply and less hassle!LOL! Anyway, I am also looking forward to have my own work so we can avail other benefits! Thanks Bebs!

Hey there, Bebs08. Ever since I was a child my parents has always ensure that I see a dentist minimum once every 6 months so thats twice a year. to ensure that my teeth is safely kept. well just clean and away from diseases and I must say till today maintain that streak of seeing a dentist at least once every six months and I'm very poud of myself for keeping track of that record. If you check and seek professionals advice they will advice you to see them once every 6months minimum so if there is a problem they can solve it quickly before it gets to late and too painful!

I agree with that idea. But hen some people like me, is so much concern with the expenses.. because they are charging higher now. The better thing to do is to take good care of our teeth. By nor eating too much sugar and brush it everyday to avoid teeth problem.javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMainContent$lbStart','')

Oh!! that is very good!! Maybe you have medical insurance? others have non so they avoid going to the dentist regularly. Aside from that, they are also fearful to be there. But most are force to go when the pain is already unbearable.

I go to the dentist as least twice a year. I have problems with my teeth as well, but as long as I brush them when I need to, and keep up with visits, then everything is fine.

I go see my dentist every 3 mos. for a cleaning, I don't like going but its something I have to do, if I wait to go longer the more stuff I have on my teeth and the more they have to scrape and the more at risk of bleeding I become. I'm on blood thinners, so they have to be really careful when cleaning my teeth, because if they hit my gums, its like opening a dam, and I'll bleed and bleed. I never hardly went to the dentist when I was a kid, so as I grew up, I had alot of plaque on my teeth, I brushed them all the time, but it didn't help get the plaque off. I'm diabetic also, so everytime I went to see the doctor they would send me to the dentist to check my teeth and gums, I hated going, somehow I always managed to get away from them, till one day, they caught me and they said my teeth needed to be cleaned bad, I knew they did, but I was scared to get it done. Well they cleaned them alright, but not without me bleeding, I mean I bled for 5 days after that,I even went to the ER because no matter what I did, it wouldn't stop. After the 5 days, it had stopped and I had these horrible blood clots on my gums, they came off, and once my gums healed up my teeth looked so much better, they were clean. So now whenever I need to get them cleaned I do, I don't want to ever go thru that again, my teeth and gums are healthy now, and I'm proud of them...So its important to start with your children now, take them to the dentist so they don't have all these problems when their older, like having to get teeth pulled out. Thats one thing I'm trying to prevent, I don't want to get any teeth pulled.

Oh!! your story is horrible!! bleeding wouldn't stopped till 5 days? that is pretty scary. I am scared with blood. I don't know why. Oh!! that is bad..yes you are very right!! kids must be taken to the dentist often to make them used to it and tooth problems be prevented. Thank you for sharing your experience which is an encouragement to those who will read this to be careful and see their dentist often.

Your friend should know that any tooth infection could cause her life. She should overcome her fear because in the first place the technology has been so upgraded. Before you it would be so painful during the injection. Now there is anesthesia before the injection so no more pain. And a lot more other improvements that really make every visit to a Dentist not a fearful one anymore. I am regularly visiting my Dentist every 6 months since last year. I made a terrible mistake of putting off my schedule to her clinic and it was late when I realized my gums have started to swell. It's good my good Dentist was still able to save the affected portion.

Oh!! really? yea, I keep on telling her to try just once with my dentist because she is nice and you'll not get nervous with her. She keeps on making jokes when she works on the teeth and make me feel at ease. But my friend never did. You are right!! infection can cause your life. I have heard a lot of stories about that. Some people spend a lot of money just to cure the infected area which can be treated with minimal expense if they did it earlier. Well, man/s nature... putting things aside until it gets worst. Have a nice day my friend.
