LEAN Six Sigma, quality, hospitals, laboratory

I am working in a hospital that has decided to institute the LEAN Six Sigma process in order to improve on their quality of healthcare. They seem to think that they will gain a "world class status" on quality of healthcare. This is an admirable goal. However, the company that was hired to guide us throught the process is making healthcare into an assembly-line prcess. There has been good points - storage rooms are better organized, the workplace has less clutter (or did have - some of the clutter is returning). But, the work standards appear to have been "dumbed-down" to a 2nd graders level. So my question is: Has anyone experienced success with LEAN Six Sigma? Especially in the Laboratory Department (its where I work)?

hi i work in pathology here in australia, and we had this lean six sigma trials here.they gathered a lot of facts and figures and did a lot of stats etc,but it sure did not lead to anything.i think they spent a lot of money doing this, but it sure has not improved anything e.g the turn around time of specimens etc.in my view it was a waste of money and resources.cheers sue

hi sue, Thanks for your response. At my hospital lab, they have moved instruments into 2/3's the space we originally had, and now have 'work standars' written for 2nd graders! Turn around times, initially went down, but now are back to were they had been. I guess you're lucky it went no further.
