Grandson came home with a question. Why do people choose to use base 2 math. I searched the net, found out base 2 is what all computers are based on, also found out how base 2, 8, 16, etc works, but never saw an answer to why people choose the base 2 math. Any ideas out there?

Yes except for business mathematics, I lack expertise in mathematics even for high school level. I miserably failed 2 or 3 times in maths, then changed to social sciences and passed the examination to reach post graduation!! But I know maths is very important in life to be successful in a career.

You answered your own question: computers use base 2 because they are binary -- a bit can be either 1 or 0, bits make up byes, bytes make up kilobytes, etc.
