black or brown butterflies

In an old barrio, they say when a black or brown butterflies passes by their house or flies around for a while and goes away, it means that someone dear to them has passed away. Is this a fact or just a mere superstition?

I'm quite the skeptic, so I believe that it's just a superstition and nothing more. I guess everyone has their own culture and beliefs that they adhere to. For all I know, it might very well be true for them.

Who knows, every superstition is based on something. But as for me, I've never heard about it and more, I've never seen black or brown butterflies.
