Well, I really don't have an official mother-in-law. I'm not yet married but we (me and my girlfriend) plan to get married in a few years. We've been together for more than 10 years now and I've known my "mother-in-law-to-be" quite good. I perfectly understand though that she is very protective of her. I just to my best to protect her as well. That's the least I could do. We had fun sometimes especially during occasions such as birthdays and other parties. We get along pretty well and I do believe she trusts me somehow to take care of her daughter. Although sometimes, I am worried that she might not approve. Well, we just have to prove further. See 'ya!

Actually I have a wonderful mother in law. She is always caring and ready to lend a shoulder or have some advise if you need it. Plus she is up front and speaks her mind. I joke, that we get along so well because she is 12 hours away. But I believe in my heart that if she lived here, we would get along just fine!

I barely even know the woman. She has moved pretty far away and we never see her and rarely even hear from her. My wife doesn't really speak about her or to her so my connection to her is very limited. I don't know if this makes me lucky, different, or what but that is the way it is.

My mother in law is now longer living but when she was, I had no problems with her. She was a very sweet person and never got into our business. We got a long very well and I miss her very much. I know my husband would say the same about my Mom. We are very blessed in that we had great parents and in laws.

My friend Leah Bryan has written a book about this subject - it's called Horror mothers-in-law (and you thought yours was bad...). It is full of stories like these and is a real hoot. www.nuhousepress.com Karen
