Who are your favourite bands and why do you like them so much?

This is a really great way to get each other informed about worthy bands whom we might all be into. My own musical taste is alternative, punk rock, rock and roll and some pop and cheesy old time tunes (like the horrors that are played in my place of employment - My baby takes the morning train, anyone?) I'm from Australia and we've got a really great base of original music here. Everyone has obviously heard Silverchair, but what about Powderfinger, or Eskimo Joe? They're both fronted by men (composed of men, really) and have great melodies, searing lyrics and are both sparse and sprawling. They guarantee your mind a soaring, bending experience and will frame your day in a different way. Check out Claire Bowditch or Kate Miller Heidke if female vocals are your thing. These two are very different from each other, Bowditch more folk-tinged and dry, while KMH has a background in opera that is revealed in her pretty awesome stage shows and other live experiences. Out of all of these bands my song recommendation would be Space They Cannot Touch by Kate Miller Heidke. It's amazing. Download or buy it, or look it up on Youtube. Go for it, you won't regret it.

I have so many favorite bands but I will just list two. The first is Rise Against, and I really like them because all of their songs have a great message to them. They are a bit harder, but I wouldn't call them hard rock, probably alternative. The guitar work is amazing, and the lead singers vocals just really get me pumped up. The other band(s) is Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin (two bands, same lead singer and I think one of the guitarists is the same), which is kind of poppy. But the songs I can usually really relate to, and the vocals and piano work in those albums mesh very well. I am currently addicted to both of these groups, and have been for years.

I saw Rise Against a few years ago at a music festival we have in Oz called the Big Day Out. It was just after Siren Song of the Counter Culture had been released - I remember I was third row or something and got nailed. I really like Something Corporate too - Konstantine, of course! I severely love that song even though it makes me think of my nerdy teenage days :D Good choices though!

Ha ha yeah, I'm still living those nerdy teenage days despite being 23! And I've seen Something Corporate once, and they played Konstantine, and it was totally amazing! And Rise Against, I don't know how many times I've seen! I love concerts, and they have been on the Warp Tour a lot lately, which I try to go to every year! Sounds like you have a great taste in music!
