What are your experiences with natural disasters? Have you or someone you know lived through a hurricane, earthquake, tornado, flood, or fire? If so what were your experiences? How did you survive? What effect has this experience had on you since it happened?

I live in FL so I've had a lot of hurricane disasters. I would have to say hurricane Charley was the worst for my area. We had to miss school for days if now at least a 1wk 1/2, power was out, floods etc. but I lived through it. I would have to say that it has made me a lot more cautious when knowing a hurricane is approaching. I prepare accordingly if not overly. Better to always be over prepared rather than under prepared.

well the biggest thing I've been through was when we lived in Michigan and we had this terrible ice storm, complete with about 2 feet of snow. The ice was coming down and clinging to the elecrical lines,so about 6 counties, including ours, lenawee, lost power for 10 days. A lot of peopl had their roofs cave in because of the weight of the snow + the ice on top of it, school was closed for 3 weeks. There was so much snow the county ran out of places to put it and the ice had the county trucks busy out on the roads throwing dirt on them for tracktion. It was more aweful that I can explain. There were a lot of lives lost and a lot of businesses including stores that just couldnt stay open. It was a disaster. Now I live in Florida and got hit by tropical storm Faye which was nothing. But Hanaah really scares me.She is headed right at us. Very scary.

No matter where I have lived, we have always had hurricane problems. I think, when I lived in North Carolina, we had a blizzard, but I was too young to remember. But, we've been through Ivan, Katrina (we didn't get much where we were, but the downtown flooded), and many other hurricanes and tropical storms. We had a tornado go through downtown here, but that was far away from my location in the city at the time.
