I am sure that being friendly helps alot but what else can a waitress do to get good tips. And of course offer good service. My cousins daughter is a waitress and seems to enjoy it so I have to wonder if she makes good tip money. Just wondering.

Hello virgie... i've experienced on being a waiter in a restaurant here in our country.. And based on my experience, Just comfort the costumers.. Satisfy their needs.. Don't ask them too much.. If they just arrived, give them the menu and a glass of water.. And mostly, patience is needed to have a good tip from them.. The costumers will be coming back for more if the waiter/waitress gives good service.. And maintain the cleanliness of the tables and tell her to maintain the neatness of her uniform too.. Maybe not all of the costumers will see that your really clean coz they just want to eat and see a clean table to eat with but some costumers (Usually old ones like grannys) they need a clean sorroundings to eat to make them comfortable.. In that case you'll need to maintain the cleanliness of the sorroundings.. Even if your not incharge of cleaning it.. That was all based on my 4 year experience of being a waiter.. So Goodluck on your cousin's daughter and hope she'll be promoted ;)

I was a waitress for quite some time and I know for sure being friendly does it but there is more to it. If you get the hang of it and you can multi-task you will make more money. If you get drinks, napkins, straws, and a couple plates of food from the kitchen and bring them to 4 or 5 tables. You make bigger tips. But the top tips for bigger tips is refilling drinks when they are only half full so they dont run out, bringing food quickly and making sure it is warm when it gets there.
