Both a cat and a monkey gives shelter to their babies .
But in different manner . The cat carries the kitten catching hold of it by the neck and keeps in a safe place . The cat clings to the kitten in a way . The cat is proactive in her responsibility to protect her baby .
But in case of the monkey the mother does not cling to the baby but the baby does . Here the mother is reactive rather than proactive . She gives shelter to her baby only when it seek it by catching hold of the mothers belly and bosom .
Putting yourself in the foot of a baby and your boss in the foot of the mother , which manner would you like more ? Catlike ( always ready to guide you proactively) or monkeylike (giving emotional support shielding you from the blame of your mistakes and shouldering all such blames to himself) ?

I would say my boss is a monkey.
He advices me when needed and most of the time rides on me to get5 some work done. That is the rarely found species in any office. We can find cats who finally make their subordinates weak. You forgot to mention the main species, snakes which eat their own babies. Many bosses of these kind can be found, who simply spoil their subordinates career.
