do your children pack lunches for school or eat the school lunches?

I like the convenience of my kids buying lunches at school but have you ever seen or even tried what they eat? I go once a week to have lunch with them and I don't think I can really stomach most of what is served. I have yet to see a kid eat any of the vegetables and I would say at least 50% of it goes in the trash cans. I have started packing my kids lunch because they eat better.

My children always have a packed lunch. I maske the sarnies for them and then help them pack the rest, cake and three fruits. School dinners are good value for money but when you times it by three children then it costs a lot. I can pack them up for a lot less money which is good and I also know waht they have eaten as they bring the left overs home.

I like it when my kids bring extra food home they don't eat too and they can have it as a snack later. I know when I pack that they get a fruit and vegetable that they will eat and usually a dairy and protein.

I live in a very small town with a grade school and a high school that has the middle school attached to it. My kids have always had school lunches(and had very few complaints), with the occasional random sack lunch. I think it depends on the school, the budget, and the nutrition guidelines. Recently, they took white bread off the menu at our schools. There is always a fresh salad bar, the food is prepared fresh, they get milk or juice for drink choice, and the dessert is usually close to healthy. I like to go have lunch on 'teriyaki dippers' day. I also go on the day they have the Thanksgiving lunch. My oldest is now a Freshman so he's at the high school, I have one at the middle school, and I still have one at the grade school. So far, my kids still like lunch. I, on the other hand, clearly remember grade school lunch, and it was usually gross in some way. Middle school was better, I ate a lot of nachos, and high school was off campus, we hit a lot of drive-thru's.

wow, your school sounds so much better. I have never seen anything beyond chicken nuggets, pizza, hot dogs and chili chips. I would love to see different foods like teriyaki dippers! I think that is great they took white bread off the menu too.
