Hi all I have a simple but also a difficult question :D Do you think there is sound when there is no one to hear it ? I had to answer this question at work yesterday, and it has been in my mind since then :D So now I want to know what you think about it ^^ Thanks

This question reminds me of the "If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around does it make a noise?" I can't be sure. I think it would, but then again I think it must also be dependent on the inner mechanisms of the human ear canal. I also have to say that in a forest there is someone around,an animal, but (most) can still hear. Now for your own question I would have to inquire to the environment this proverbial sound. If it is in a room, perhaps small, then it may make an echo because of the confines of the room, otherwise, I can not be sure.

Sure there is, no different than there is sound even if you have earplugs and can't hear it. Just like there are many colors even if you are blind and can't see them. Just like there is a plethora of odors all around us, although if you can't smell, you won't smell them.

This is one of those rhetorical type questions normally attributed to Buddhism! Similar one is "What is the sound of one hand clapping". Of course the sound will exist! The sound vibrations caused by any event will occur regardless of whether there is any hearing receptor to pick it up or not.

I know this is a very common question but I have to say that I've thought about it but I'm not able to get its sense :D Sound is a real thing and it doesn't make sense to me saying that it's not existing if no one is hearing it. It's too much anthropocentric, LOL! It's like saying that a rock 100 meters underground doesn't exists because nobody can see it... I don't get it... :D

Yez, indeed there is a sound. Because sound is made up of vibration. But, if the case is that you are depth? Of course, you will not be able hear it. And also, when nobody will hear it, or there is nobody that will hear it, of course then there is no proof that there is a sound? whew.. I think that question is annoying. who the heck ask you that question?
