Have there been any discussions here on MyLot that shocked or surprised you. Some of the discussion here I have seen really shocked me that someone would post. Some are personal things, some are gross, some are things that if it would have happened to me I would never want any one to know. I guess it just comes down too the point that you just have to let it out to make yourself feel better.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've seen some like that too. And, some of them just don't make any sense at all. I think sometimes they start a discussion just to get pts. But as far as personal ones, I wouldn't want people knowing all the personal things about me. Or, as you said, maybe they need someone to talk to.

Some people feel they can discuss anything at myLot because we are all anonymous, we don't show our real name here, and most people don't show their face. I do think some people treat myLot as if it was a private forum or a personal blog and they don't understand that everything posted here can be found in search engine results by a countless number people around the world, or by employers, family and friends. It is not a good idea to post pictures of your family if you don't want them to be viewed by strangers. It's not a good idea to give real names or personal details. And some people write about their friends and family members, who may not want their personal life read about by the world. If people want to write about themselves they can do, but they should remember that anything they post will stay on the internet and can always be accessed by other people.

Yes very well said. Some people don't realize that this is public. Some of the topics are gross but I don't bother responding to them. I wouldn't write anything here that I wouldn't want my family or friends to see. For the most part I do more reading than responding. Some topics are quite interesting and amusing.

oh yes... some of them really are... especially the gross and personal one like you say... i can't imagine myself starting those discussions and i think private things better to be keep to yourself rather than being broadcast here to people that you don't even know at all... but it is a personal choice and we can't really do anything to stop them... take care and have a nice day...

Well, we are all unique in many ways. What is taboo for some is general intake for others. I think, some people will post very personal matter here because they think they will receive somewhat genuine advice without being stigmatised or looked down at if they consulted people that know them. Besides, may people here use pseudonyms!

I think that authors of such discussions are some time suppressed else where and can not air there vows and they find the my lot a convenient platform to air their views and they make discussions and responses and felt released. It is also possible they are just to increase their score are writing these casual posts. How do you feel please do write and comment.

Hi Chevee, Nothing ever shock me anymore and some people have no one to talk to and this is the only way, their only friends that won't judge them but will give good advice but I have never come across anything that is gross, thank goodness, this is the best place to be. Hugs Tamara

I haven't seen anything that has shocked me too bad. I have thought that some people were revealing an awful lot of themselves. Then, I think, good for them that they can be so forthright and honest. Then I wonder if the post is even true. I have thought of posting things and wondered if I would shock the community by doing so. I don't think that I have, yet. Any topic that gets you thinking is usually a good one.

I haven't been on MyLot long enough to be really shocked and surprised... I must say I like it that there is a wide range of topics people talk about.. Maybe I was surprised at the very beginning when I saw a person with some similar dilemmas to mine... (one of the reasons I signed up :)) Also, I was surprised at some of the personal hardships some members here seem to be encountering.. (if they are being truthful about it..) Personally, I think it's good to speak about things that trouble one, even if it's only online.. But it's good to ensure one remains private about it and does not give many details to be identified by..
