If I am not mistaken, you are attempting to use the walkie talkie function (handset to handset option) in which case both the sending and recieving unites need to be set for direct link mode. (they also cannot send or reiceve calls in this mode.) or that function won't work. Another possibility is that your handset is not registered to your base. To do this you first have to clear the base registtration in the handset and follow the instructions for registering compatable handsets to your base. (also the battery must be charged for a number of hours) I do not have the same model, but I am guessing you have a Uniden wireless phone with multiple handsets. You should have gotten a manual that will give you specifics on doing what you are trying to do.
