Pardon me if i seem like exaggarating but is this world's biggest mosquito or does it come from Jurrasic park? I have never seen a mosquito this big in my life. And just this morning i was shocked when i saw it sitting on my 2 year old nephew's hand. I don't know if its common in your city but i have seen it first time. Have you seen a mosquito this big?

Wikipedia says that adults do not eat mosquitoes but the larva may feed on the mosquito larva. I guess they like nector.

Its not a crane fly. i have seen thousands of cry flies since childhood and i clearly know the difference between crane fly & mosquito. This thing is a mosquito.

That's uh..pretty big. Imagine what it would feel like landing on you and taking your blood, lol. That has to feel like a thin needle trying to get under your skin. And no I haven't seen anything like this now. I guess they're getting bigger because of radiation or something like those bad B movies, lol. But in those movies they were way bigger than that and hopefully in real life they will never get as big.

Holy Cow! That is a huge one! I would have freaked out if I saw that on a child's hand (or my hand for that matter!) I can honestly say that I have never seen a mosquito that big in my entire life. We've had such a small amount of rainfall this year, that we've barely had any mosquitos. That's a good thing!

I am not about to say that I know what this bug is. I can tell you though that those wings look nothing like any mosquito wing I've seen. It looks like one of those bugs that skim accross the water and eat smaller bugs off the water surface...anyway...mosquito...no. Good luck

It is not a mosquito at all! It's a crane fly (Tipulidae.) Dr.P.K. Sumodan Assistant Professor of Zoology, India
