You are right, everyone is different, with different views and opinions. Candidates should focus on the issues, not attack each other. I'll bet that if the Democrat or Republican or Independent titles were removed from the candidates' names, and just the person was running for office; the issues were discussed, a middle ground could be reached for ALL of the countrys' best interests. I think it's a lot like ignoring a bully, eventually this BS gets old and the bully goes away. Ignore or eliminate the party affiliations and base your opinions upon the issues, not a rivalry.
