Well Travelled

I have been really lucky, in 1988 I joined the airlines. A whole new world. Airports were a great place but always expensivve.. But alas, my first day found me travelling south to begin my training. 4 weeks later I was got my uniform and badges, the real thing now. I never imagined I could be in 4 countires in 1 day. The problem at first was that my credit card companies used to cancel my cards thinking there was a fraud risk. But after a few years, it came to the point that I never knew where I wanted to go to. So I would throw a coin onto a large world map on the floor and see where it landed, a bit selective but if it seemed ok I would go there. 90% discount on all flights. Brilliant, but yes it costs you when you get there. Out of the 83 countries that I travelled to, my favourite was probably, for visual impact Hong Kong, second was Las vegas and third was the Namib dessert with the huge sand dunes, amazing. I just hate Cabin crews these days, they are so full of themselves, lots of smiling when you board then that disapears the minute the doors shut, how many of you have noticed that? Any task , is doing you a favour. Any request, well thats just asking far to much. The minute there is a problem, you are reminded about their booking conditions, that in summary, really just say, if you aint to happy, with what we are offering, then tough luck. You bok a 5 star hotel and when you get there, you think gee, this ony 3 at most, so you have a word with the rep and what does she say, lol, well it does say 5 star but it is a 3 crown rating(whatever that means) did you not see that in our broucher.Perhaps I am justn to synical these days what do you think? Should I just shut up, or am making sence?

It was lovely to read about your traveling to the different countries and your work as a member of airline staff. Banks can be suspicious when they guess there is fraud yet it is the real owner of the credit card. When I tried to get out 200 Rand in South Africa the bank machine wouldn't give it to me. I had to phone my home country to get them to give my own money. I have traveled as a backpacker and later on an independent traveler. I used to stay in youth hostels and backpacker hostels. Now stay at locally owned guest houses. I am well traveled but as much as you. My favorite countries that I have been to are Samoa, Australia, New Zealand, Belize and the Seychelles.

I would have liked to have your kind of job when I was young, so I could travel. As it was, I got married early and I have been traveling these last years, now that my children are by themselves. I could not make a list of all the beautiful places where I have been. Probably one that is always present in my mind is a trip I made to Andalusia (Spain) when my late husband was already very sick. We had fun in spite of his illness and I would love to return once more for a pilgrimage. I usually go to good hotels and, better still, apart hotels or resorts. I have a time share in Aruba and can exchange it through the world. So I donĀ“t have to worry about hotels not being nice: the exchange institution only accepts 5 star hotels. I would not accept a hotel that is not what I want, except if I knew that I was getting a lower star hotel. When my husband and I were young, we traveled some and slept at on the road motels. You only hope for cleanness there!!! Merry Christmas!
