my dog has been dead for almost 3 years now, and i still missher. sometimes i look on line for dogs that are up for adoption. but i live in a 1 bedroom apartement now and it is really hard to have a dog there. i wonder if i should get a kitty instead, even thou i like dogs better. i had some fish, but its not the same.my dog was a chow chow, she was pretty big. maybe i should think about getting a small dog, like a poodle or schnauzer. im lost.

Since you are staying in an apartment, perhaps a small breed dog is more suitable, as the small breed dog doesn't really need much space to run around. I have never take care of poodle before, so I have no idea how they behave. My aunt is having a shih tzu, she can always stay in the house by herself, and it's very easy to take care of her. Also, she doesn't need to run around, or perhaps an apartment is spacious enough for her.

I thought about it for a while, and i'm probably better of without any animal for a while longer.

Hi missybear, welcome to mylot! You might want to try volunteering at a shelter nearby. Then you can check out different breeds of animal and see which one you like. You might even meet a new friend that you like so much you want to take them home! If you are lonely and are wanting a pet, I think you should get one. Just take your time and research it well. Find out what breeds do well in an apartment setting. Some questions to consider are: If you work, will it be ok by itself for long periods of time (3 or 4 hours) by itself? Does my landlord allow pets? If so, do I need to put up a deposit? Do my neighbours have pets that my new dog/cat will need to get along with if I take it outside?

Hi missybear! I would suggest that you choose a small dog since you only have a 1 bedroom apartment. There's many bread of small dogs. I used to have a japanese spitz bread of dog. The reason that I chose this bread of dog is they are easy to dicipline and can be a good guard dog.

and I forgot to mention... a poodle is not a small dog, if you are thinking of getting a poodle, you should consider a toy poodle, they are MUCH smaller and I think you would be happier with a smaller dog than larger dog, and a smaller dog is going to be much happier in your place too, considering your living arrangements

I completely understand your feelings on this one! Honestly hun, don't get something you are not going to be happy with. If it is a dog you want, then get a dog, don't get a pet that you may not be happy with, just to fill that space in your heart! No dog or other pet will replace your other pet, but if you are a dog person at heart, then a dog is what you need. I'm not saying you should not make any changes, but small changes are best. Maybe instead of getting a chow chow, get something in a smaller breed of dog. May I reccomend that you get your pet (no matter what you choose to get) from a shelter. I hate those places that kill animals after so many days, but, those pets need to be saved from such a thing happening to them! Good Luck and the best wishes for you!
