It is a scam for sure. I see cases like this all the time on Judge Judy, don't deposit the check you will get into trouble.

If you have the actual check they sent you I would go to my bank and they would know who to report it to. It depends also from which country they sent it from because I saw a special on dateline where it was NOT illegal in some countries to do this so these people aren't breaking a law in their country so they continue to try and scam us here and they do succeed, people still fall for these scams every day.

This DEFINITELY sounds like a scam. In fact, I'm almost certain that it is. The trick being played on YOU is that you cash the check, send the company THEIR $300 (which is usually requested as a money order or cash-type payment so it can't be revoked and they can run without getting caught). You are then stuck with a bank or financial institution who will come after YOU for the $3,000 you received when you cashed the check, because it was a fradulent check to begin with. The bank would or could probably verify its authenticity if you took it in and let them check it out. I would even turn it over to the authorities so they can handle it and stop stuff like this from happeneing. But whatever you do, DO NOT CASH IT WITHOUT CHECKING IT OUT FIRST. It's crazy that a company would send you a check, then expect YOU to PAY them part of what THEY paid YOU...Think about it and you'll probably realize that real, legitimate opportunities do not work this way. Also, you mentioned "doing work from home" for this company....do you honestly think they would pay you first -- even before submitting any work to them???? Something smells fishy and people like this $300 may not sound like a lot of money, but $300 X the hundreds of people who will fall for the scam can add up in a major way. This is how they make their money. Sadly enough, if you cash the check and it turns out to be a scam, YOU become responsible, not THEM.
