can you imagine, it has nearly become a must to send gifts normally costs over 200yuan to the teachers on Teacher's Day? if students don't, they will be treated as a problem kid. once i taxied and the driver told me a teacher he rode. the gifts she received on that very day was worth over 40,000 yuan, that is 6000$ in a single day. a watch which is worth 30,000 yuan, and other stuffs, she had to taxi home, of course the cab was loaded with all those gifts.(a key school teacher, primary school in shenyang city, liaoning province, china.) Today, when i was eating in a restaurant, i heard the boss saying she bought a bunch of flowers to her son's teacher. Each class, there are at least 45 students, so let's count ,,,,,

im stunned. I know teachers WISH they had that kind of recognition here but I do not think teachers are allowed to accept gifts like that here. I know I used to get xmas gifts for my band teacher in high school but that was just a sweater, nothing too fancy. I think they do not encourage anything extravagant just to ensure there is no favortism and it doesnt get in the way of their teaching. Is this something recent or the gifts have always been that big there? Flowers and cards were always a typical 'teacher gift' when I was in school, never money.

hi, that's right. not only you, i guess all people except chinese are stunned by the fact. things have been like these for at least 10-20 years. flowers? no no, teachers from primary and secondary schools won't value flowers, instead they hate it because it is not practical and have to find room to put them. only money, money , money, so even kids from their kindergarten know the rule.

yah they're getting rich today.but i think it doesnt mean a lot when they recieve the blizzard of gifts just right as the current-teacher of them who give the gifts. some years later a teacher receive gifts from his former students, that means he's a real good teacher, because some real kindness and closeness between people will come up when they're getting out of obliged relationship.

yeah, we need teachers, but i don't think foreign teachers will be bribed like this, because the students' fate is not in your hand. who has the power, who gets the money. see?
