Mom came home from the hospital last night, finally!

As many of you may remember, my mother fell and was taken to the hospital where they found no injuries, but pneumonia! She was released yesterday, but because they waited until after lunch, I wasn't able to pick her up until after 7 last night. Well, she's home and is really worn out after this visit. She usually comes home a bit more revitalized and ready to go, but this time she's not. I think her disease is finally really beginning to take its toll on her. She is in end-stage emphysema, but despite this and her age (91), she hasn't given up and keeps plugging along. Her home health intake nurse just left saying she was amazed at her, given her age and how long she's had emphysema, that she has better air sounds in her lungs than many of the patients she's seen who have had it for fewer years than Mom. Right now she's out talking to her other worker who comes twice a week to help her with housekeeping. She loves company and the woman stopped by to see her knowing she'd gotten home from the hospital yesterday. But, she is alive and as well as she can be, and actually in pretty darned good shape for the shape she's in. For those of you who responded to the first posting about Mom - thank you. I'll be adding my note to you soon. It's been a busy time this week with Mom and my daughter's legal problem and a few of my own - doing myLot has been more hit and miss than usual. But, I will try to get back to everyone so you don't think I am not appreciative. Thank you again!!

Sorry to hear that your mom was in the hospital, jerzgirl. Glad she's home where she belongs thou. Sounds like she will live forever being she's had emphysema for so long and still going so strong. My MIL has had it for over 15yrs. and still going as well but she is getting sicker and sicker. Can't do much of anything nowadays without feeling so tired.

Wow! Bouncing back so soon but yet anything can happen in a matter of minutes. She may or may not come home like she thinks. Depends on her health now. Sending up prayers for her right now for a good recovery.

Hi BB. Thanks so much. Unfortunately, Mom was rushed back to the hospital last Thursday in respiratory distress. She remembers nothing. The disease has now affected her heart and she has congestive heart failure. Her CO2 was sky high and her heart and lungs were surrounded with fluid. She was blue upon arrival. Yet, last night, it was like night and day. She was bouncy, feeling active, wanting to get dressed, disappointed that she couldn't be dressed in the Critical Care ward (she was in ICU for three days). Her doctor called her "amazing" at her ability to pull through and still have a good attitude. She seems to think she'll be released this week, although I have my doubts despite her seeming recovery. This one was bad and I think they'll want to watch her a bit.

So glad that your mother is home now and that is amazing with her age and her health problem that she did bounce back so quickly from her pneumonia. She is not a quitter for sure. As for mylot, first things first, family does come first. Just remember though that we are all here when you do need us though. Have a great day.

Hi jerzgirl, I feel rather relieved to learn that your mom had recovered and she is in good condition on health again. At this senior age she is lucky that she could receive well care to let her to live comfortably. As she loves company and I believe she is a sociable person who likes to mix with people. To be sociable is one of the factors to keep a person healthy physically and mentally. Here I convey my best regard to her. I believe all your friends here understand your inconvenient you encountered recently so take your time to get every thing settled down first before you come back to mylot again. posting and take care.

I'm glad your mom is home. I do know about emphysema, my friend's mom had that but it wasn't what killed her. So long as your mom has a good attitude and is happy to see people, she can continue with her good long life! From what I see at my mom's place, happiness has more to do with living a long life than any other single thing.
