Another Tragedy

Well I was working at the hospital last night and the ambulance crew brought in a five year old that drowned in the family pond. From what people have told me, the mother knew her son was outside playing but was gone later than usual so she went out to check on him and found him floating in their pond. According to the officials, he had been in that pond for at least an hour to an hour and forty five minutes. Family was giving him CPR when the ambulance arrived and it continued for thirty minutes to forty five minutes after he got back to the hospital. The doctor finally called the code after a little over an hour. Let me tell you, that was one of the worst nights I think I have worked at the hospital. I am the registration clerk so there is nothing I can do. The parents were there but I felt so useless. I talked with them for a few minutes and gave out hugs, but I guess that's all I could do. It was horrible. That poor mother is going to live with that guilt now for the rest of her life.

Hi there Wyldrose That really is tragic, I look at my boys, who are aged 3, 5 and 7 and think myself so lucky to have them safe from harm. My heart goes out to the family and it must have been hard for you to see them in such grief.

It was horrible. It's always awful to have to watch the parents grieve as they did and then stand there feeling helpless. Keep your kids close.

Wow rose that is just horrible, I feel so bad for the mom and the rest of the family. The guilt that she will have for the rest of her life. Nothing can be done to take the pain away of a loss of a child! I know that you felt awful, I am sorry, its all I can really say.

Yes it sure is and thanks for your kind words. I found out last night they are conducting an investigation. The child was out in the field by a pond and by himself. So they may charge the mom with negligence. I don't know...I know they are doing an autopsy on the little boy. I can't imagine living with something like that.
