Pitch Black Darkness!

I woke up in the middle of the night to pitch black darkness! This might not seem like a big deal to some of you, but I have a deep-seated fear of the darkness. I have been this way all of my life. I will not sleep in the house without some source of light at night. We were in the middle of a huge power outage and I was faced with a dilemma -to take a chance on leaving a candle burning and just go to sleep, or to try and stay awake even though I felt exhausted. In the end I forced myself to shut my eyes very tightly and pray that the lights would be back on when I woke up. Fat chance! After dozing for a short while I came awake abruptly with the feeling that I was drowning in a sea of darkness. I quickly grabbed my flashlight and turned it on. I decided that it would be much better if I lit a candle and placed it in the kitchen on top of the stove where it would be relatively safe while I got some sleep on the love seat. I was ready to jump for joy when I was awakened by the hum of the a/c and the sound of the exhaust over the stove, and, wonder of wonders, the lights over the stove and in the bathroom were shining brightly. Do you have a fear of the darkness? If so, when did it begin?

I am like this also. I always leave a light on somewhere in the living room. So I can see if I need to get up to go to the rest room. I hate it myself also when the lights go off in the middle of the night while I am sleeping

That had to have been really scary. I would have been scared also.

The way my little apartment is laid out, Shaun, a tiny night light in my kitchen provides enough light for me, I also have one of those nearly invisible plug-in ones in the bathroom.

I have a bit of fear of the dark. I guess it started when my parents took my nightlight away as punishment for reading past my bedtime (I was using the nightlight to read by). I still hate the dark and will not sleep in an unfamiliar place in the dark, I have to leave the light on in hotels and things. At home if my husband is home--I am fine with sleeping in the dark. But since he has been away on a business trip, I have been leaving the bathroom light on. At least your power came back on!

It has been very comforting to me, Aurone, to look into my kitchen at night and see my tiny night light shining there. I used to read by flashlight underneath the covers at night when I was a kid.

I feel truly blessed, weemam, since there are still almost 200,000 people in my area without power -including some of my family members.

We were in the dark until 10 last night. I am not that bad about the dark, but it is a little scary. We played games until bedtime last night, we had one light we hooked up to an inverter and ran by battery.

It's great, Thoroughrob, that your power has been restored. You never know how hard it can be to get along without it until you have to.
