For some reason my cats love using the bathroom in my closet or in my boy's closet. Last night I had the not so wonderful task of cleaning out their closet and when I say funky, I mean funky. I had to clean up both urine and feces. One of my son's shirts was soked with urine and it could have literally knocked someone out with the smell alone. So now I'm thinking that their closet is taking care of and then this morning I wake up to find out they used my closet too! What am I to do? It's not like they don't use the litter box so can someone tell me why they are using the closets as well? Please, any information will help.

Hi Linda, I have never experienced this problem with any of my cats but putting pepper down will deter them, all deordourise the closet first before doing this. Have they both been done as if the urine is particularly powerful it could be that they are marking their territory which Toms are reknowed for, you mention litter tray so I am guessing they are house cats rather than wanderers and if not neutured will cause them to wander round the home instead and do it. Hope this helps a bit. Ellie :D

first, we all know that cats teach us ! yes, they are trying to send you a message. is their litter box some place private? or, do people and the other kittens come passed? change in litter? i used to have a covered litter box. you know, like an arch way to walk into it. i love it. well, when i added a new cat to the mix, my older cat would hear her in the box and stand behind the door waiting to pounce. she was easy prey. ok, but when SHE did that to him. no way. so he left me a little message that the lid needed to be removed. it was. so then i tried a screen. nope. i can still be ambushed ! anything new or changed in a routine can be the problem. they are obviously upset and obviously trying to tell you something. my preferance is to go to purina.com there are all kinds of great issues that are discussed. when you say kittens.....is either about neutering age? you can even post a question there.

Thank you Mommasam for the information. I did take the litter box from one area to another so maybe that's it?
