Any suggestions for getting started selling your cakes?

I was reminded earlier today how hard it is to get started selling the cakes we work so hard on but love doing. I have sold a few cakes but not many and the method I used was to make flyers and hand them out at the local Flea Market where I am a vendor (some markets don't allow customers to hand out flyers so be sure to check with the office before doing so). I also made some cakes and raffled them off at the market, which did generate a couple of sales. I saw a bulletin board for business cards at a local restaurant today and I am going to make some cards to take up there. Does anyone else have more, possibly better, suggestions for all us cake decorating entrepeneurs out here?

I don't know if you've already heard of this website, but go to www.cakecentral.com. They offer lots of help & tips on going into business to sell cakes, and they have forums about it as well.

Oh yes, I love that site. I have been a member for quite some time now and have pics of most of my cakes posted there.

here is an idea why dont you offer to do some free cakes for businesses in your area so you can get your name out there. That is a thought.
