Movies VS Books

Have you ever come accross a movie that turned out to be better than the book it was based on? Have you ever watched a movie based on a book/novel and thought that they have completely missed the plot? What do you prefer? A good book or a good movie? Why?

I have never found a movie to be better than the book it was based on. I almost always prefer a good book - I think I like using my imagination a little more than the movie allows.

books need a lot of imagination and understanding. it's basically pretty hard to imagine things and when you see them in movies, it's either we are overwhelmed or disappointed. graphic novels fared well when done in movies.. almost all i think.
