I remember it.I can sing it. Even today I get very emotional about it, and have to stop it half-way, and I would prefer it to be going on in the background, for I would be in no position to continue with my voice too choked to bring out the words. It is Jana-Gana-Mana written by Rabindranath Tagore. He composed the music for it, in such a manner that it is easily played and sung even by the less musically inclined! There are several other songs also acknowledged, as equivalent. One is Vande Mataram in Sanskrit, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. The other is Saare jahaan se accha Hindustaan hamaara, written by Allama Iqbal who later migrated to Pakistan. Every one of these songs evoke the same moving response in me.

I am from the Philippines and our National Anthem is "Lupang Hinirang", however, a lot of Filipinos mistake it for "Bayang Magiliw" because that' the first line of the song. Bayang Magiliw Perlas ng Silanganan Alab ng puso'y Sa dibdib mo'y buhay... It's a beautiful song about the Philippines as the Pearl of the Orient.
