IN the United kingdom we have an awards ceremony for `ordinary ` people ,but they are people who have done something special, either for someone in particular,or for the community. They are nominated by people who know them well, and know of their good works. The whole awards show is shown on the television ,and the awards are presented to both children and adults.Would there be anyone in your neighbourhood who you would think should be nominated for his/her good work ?

There we are my little owl, there are always people who are willing to do sometihng for someone else and want little or nothing in return, and its refreshing to hear about them isnt it?Those people are the salt of the earth, their kindness doesnt go unrecognised.Doing all of the vegetable growing and then parting with all of the veggies for nothing ,what a kind act.

Hello ruby. It is so nice that you have such an awards ceremony for ordinary people. Well, I think that I am most proud of my dear mother who has done so much for the neighbouring residence all her life. My mother is a very nice lady, so caring, considerate and helpful to our neighbours and even people we don't know so long as my mother can offer help. So I will only vote my mom for the award if we have a similar awards ceremony. Thank you for your discussion.

Ruby ,there are tons of people for whom I have nothing but the greatest admiration,we dont give though to all of those in the forces who have fought in the world wars for us,they lost thier lives so that we may have a better standard of life.We now need to think of the families whos children are serving in the armed forces out in Afghanistan an Iraq, each day brings news of another of the armed forces personnel that has either been lieed or maimed,we need to just keep thanking our lucky stars that we have those forces who protect us.

There are so many people that do good jobs Ruby that it would be hard to pick any single person out for an award.I know this is lightly off the mark but its along the same lines. Each year we have an honours list, and there are a massive number of people who are given an MBE ,or a CBE or an OBE,and theri acheivements in life have been very little compared to some of our true heroes. We have time and time again seen the average man of the street being bypassed for a film star,a pop star or a director who has directed a best seller,or a box office hit.I think that the powers that be should take a long look at the honours list and look at the ordinary people who do great things, things of great courage and tenacity.
