House bill 5043 is the subject of heated debate in the congress in the Philippines. It's an act providing for a national policy on reproductive health, responsible parenthood, and population development. It's main goal is to provide information regarding contraceptives and population education and information to the public. It also aims to make contraceptives free and available to the citizens here. What makes it controversial is that majority of the people here are christians and the church is against artificial contraceptives. What do you think of House bill 5043? Where do you stand are you pro or against it.

i'm with it. being a Filipino too, we have to protect our rights as an individual regardless of what the church will say. if our population will continue to increase, what will happen to the people? how can we survive? millions of filipino's are now jobless even the newly grads are getting a hard time in looking for a decent job with good pay. so how can they justify their reasons? maybe God will understand why people are using contraceptives. because he can see what's happening to us and how hard we face the poverty here. the government is not giving aid like livelihood or any alternatives to cope up with the high prices of the basic commodities. that's also the reason why many children are forced to work instead of enjoying their youth. i don't want that to happen to my kids that's why i'm taking pills as a contraceptive. though my husband has a stable job with a good pay, we still can't afford to have another child and deprive the two others with what they want to have because we have limited resources. how about you? are pro or against it?

You have a point there I also have two children. My baby is only two months old and I am a working mom because it's not easy nowadays if the only one working is your husband. It's not posible to support the family because of the high prices of commodities nowadays. Having two children for me is enough because it's so tiring to be pregnant and it's too painful during childbirth. I hope they will approve the bill.

hi there! this has been a topic in our debate in law last semester. and we got to interview lawyers, doctors, nurses, judges, congresmen and other politicians. some agree and some dont. but what i have observed during this interviews is that most of the people who are against this bill are males who have only 2 or 3 children, because they want to have more. as for the ladies that we have asked, majority of them would say yes to this bill. for me, i would also say yes to this bill. because this country really need something to temporarily stop the ballooning population which is the main reason for poverty. as for the church's opinion. i think this would be to their advantage because this would lessen the abandoned children that are left to their mercies. sometimes i couldnt help but think that they are being hypocrites (excuse me for the word). The church kept on saying to use the natural method, but do the people practice it? no they dont, so why not educate them then? right? so that they will know the other options. anyway i really think that they should approve this bill because it doesnt only talk about contraceptions but also gender issues and the like. so they should just go ahead with it.

i really agree with you,how can they say that it's bad when in the first place they don't have children to raise and don't have any experience as to how and what parenthood is all about.

I would support it, over population isa big concern and bringing in unnecessary kids into a world in economic turmoil may not be the smartest option. Also with the big concern of AIDS and other stds and being that even though i feel the phillapines may not have the greatest health care, those diseases may kill a lot more. I guess its if you truly believe in god and believe that as humans we should not be allowed to evolve with inventions that will benefit us than they have a right to believe
