Fear means to Show the Lord the respect that is due to him. It is like how we fear our earthly fathers. We love them, we honor them, but at no time should we forget who they are. God is to be esteemed at all times. We should never presume that He is not FAR above us all. And yes, we can literally fear his wrath too. This is a healthy fear. It is a self-preserving fear because he is almighty and we are to obey him.

In the past they used to picture God as an almighty one who has to be feared. Catechists used to portray Jesus as an old man with a yard stick to measure our failings and punishes us when we falter. Today we have gone to the other extreme. Catechists teaches that our God is a loving god no matter what you do he will forgive you. I tend to agree more with the latest notion, although many (including me) seem to abuse of this, knowing that god will always forgive us.

Hello Ronald: I have seen that too, Ronald. Many Pastors tend to want to sugar-coat things so that perspective members will join and think it will be one big Love fest forever, no matter what they do! FATHER(GOD) gave us great minds to use and consider deeply and meditate upon( did you know that this is what the word "Selah" means in Psalms?(it also means connecting the previous paragraph of similar subject with the next paragraph and being aware of how they tie in together-sometimes subtly)) HE wants us to be aware fully of just how deeply we have sinned and possibly the beginning of going completely off track(as in the first of many steps!) Most pastors do not teach this so many grow up believing(like I did) that"oh, it's nothing" I didn't even know that there were 2 types of Sinners FATHER addresses! I am sooo blessed to have found my Pastor(he prefers to be called a teacher and not so much like we think of like a "Bishop, cardinal, or Pope of my dad's church-)My dad was a strict Roman Catholic. Priests were always trying to discourage him not to attend mass or confession on a daily basis! can you believe that!? He felt that we needed daily mass(time and teaching by GOD's Word) and confession daily to stay on good terms with GOD.I now totally agree with all that!!!! Would you believe the lazy priests at his church would discourage him from doing it(not successfully of course-my dad was a persistent lil child(compared to GOD's age!) of GOD's(grin) it is a good thing though, cos he was so kind and gentle and kids and animals just loved him to pieces! I inherited that as well!God does give loving discipline and if we(as my pastor says) "Kiss the paddle" and Thank HIM for the correction and strive to do better, many times FATHER will be more gentle because we are sincere about trying to do better but as the Word says"God will not be mocked so those scammers can't con HIM. Remember, Judgement begins at the pulpit! plrpetfrnd

It is really depend of how you look at it. Fear of God for me is to be cautious not to disobey his commandments. I am fear to loose him in my life for I am nothing without him. He is my everything. That's how I look at it.

Hello Margarit: I pretty much agree with you about the "Fear" however,It sounds like you are really more frightened than having a "Loving respect" of someone you Adore and Worship. I am not criticizing you, dear, only observing the feelings behind your words. Here is something FATHER(GOD) gave me when I was trying to return to HIM and was feeling similar to how you seem to feel about HIM: " Those that know HIM call HIM GOD; those that BELONG to HIM call HIM, FATHER." HE has such intense feelings of Love and Caring and Protectiveness for you Margarit, you don't even KNOW how strongly HE feels Love for you!! You, right down to your DNA, please HIM!! HE made all of us for specific reasons and purposes and there is NO ONE on earth exactly like each of us! We don't all have the same duties and paths we are supposed to take and do, and that is how HE set it up! We are however supposed to assist in Reconciling people who don't know of HIM or don't know who HE truly is, back to HIM, so that Satan doesn't deceive them. Yes, You are correct that HE has duties for us to do and HE wants us to comp lete those duties, so that when Judgement comes, HE can reward us as "good and faithful servants". Judgement has such a Negative connotation to it doesn't it? When we get to the Great White Throne Judgement(post-Millenium(1000 year teaching period)and post test) We will receive our "judgement"; this doesn't only mean punishment it also means reward! Remember the scripture "I will never Leave nor Forsake you"? it is true! and others like "there is nothing or no one on Earth((my addition)or in the whole universe for that matter) who can separate you from his Love or HIM from you!" HE has even let us leave and deny HIM when we were still baby Christians or had tantrums and such.BTW: I wasn't adding to scripture in that last quote just emphasizing how nothing can get in the way or between You and FATHER. Did you know that He is literally our Closest Relative? He owns our souls and made them so HE is even closer to us than our parents and grandparents-since HE gave us to our parents and grandparents!! That is another reason why Jesus gave HIS life on the Cross He also performed the role of "Kinsman-Redeemer" for us.Just keep asking forgiveness when you mess up(I do it almost daily, cos There are "oops's" that happen in my life and I need to stay on track with HIM. I am so glad that FATHER is Your everything! HE is My Everything as well! plrpetfrnd
