Why do average-looking guys think they have a chance with hot women?

On the radio this morning, the DJs were talking about a study that hotornot.com did about the difference between men and women. They found that women who felt that they were not very attractive did not think they had a chance to snag a really good looking guy. On the other hand, men who did not think they were that attractive thought they still had a good shot at a hot woman. Why is that? And do you think they're right?

Men think that they know what woman think. They are sadly mistaken alot of the time. Some men,the ones that do not think they are gods gift, do have a chance as they are nice guys and women see that they are not just "pigs" so to speak. Women get sick of being treated disrespectfully and look for real men.

So are you saying that women can look past the packaging to qualities that could make for a good relationship and men just can't get past it?

Not at all hun. I think I worded my comment poorly. Just stating that many men choose not to look past the package. Not that they are unable to.

Good distiction. Why do you think they choose not to look past the packaging? I think it might be because they don't think they have to. Maybe they think there's plenty of nice looking females who are also good partners so why not have both. Or maybe it just doesn't take as much for a guy to think a girl would make a good partner as the other way around.
