The Stork Has Landed And Has Brought With It Three Furry Surprises!!!!

Kittens Just Born Today September 18, 2008 - These kittens were born around 10:30am (CST) under my porch. Was alerted to the arrival when I heard sounds of one of the babies meowing.

Most who know me or have read previous discussions of mine, know that I have a soft spot for cats. Have ever since I was a kid. While attending to some business matters, I kept hearing what sounded like the call of a baby kitten, knowing that it couldn't have been one of my outdoor cats, since they are in an enclosed shelter in my backyard and have been spayed and neutered, I went out and checked around, coming back in I noticed a cat under my front porch with three wee little ones (pictured below). This is a pretty common occurrence around here, since I am surrounded by a lot of farmland and barns, which many tend to keep cats around to keep the mouse population down. Though it has been quite awhile, that an expecting mother cat has chosen under my porch to raise her young ones, so am a little excited about having the new arrivals around. Since taking the picture I have moved mom cat and her babies to a closed off section of my backyard shelter for cats, until I can find an owner or find an adoptive family for mom and her babies. If faced with this situation, what would you do? Would you care for mom cat and the kittens, til the kittens were old enough to find new homes? Would you try to find the owner of the mom cat? Would you take babies and mom to a shelter and let them deal with it? or.....??

Wow! What an exciting thing to find under your porch! I commend you for taking her in. I would try to do the same if I found a surprise like that. I hope you find her owner and convince them to get her spayed. There are already too many homeless kittens left out in the cold! If you can't find her owner, try to take her to a no-kill shelter as it sometimes takes a while for adults to be adopted out.

lol looks like I'm preaching to the converted... I didn't read your comment until after I posted. That's too bad that you don't have any good shelters around. I know space is usually the most major issue at a no-kill shelter. They almost always have a waiting list of animals.

If no owner can be found, I plan on taking care of the mom and kittens, until the kittens are old enough to get new homes, and hoping to find a home for momma cat as well, but she has a place here with me, if no home can be found for her to. I tend to not trust shelters all that much, but well that's just me and hearing to many horror stories that can go on within one.

First of all, I admire you for doing that. I love cats, and if I were you I will adopt them instead. Our house is so small for the family members and animals but when a animal enter our house, it is really difficult for them to be abandoned or be neglected much more if I see them face to face because I surely adopt them. I love cats and dogs, i really do. I have 5 big cats and 2 little kittens and 1 dog and 1 puppy in our small house but since I am the provider my parents let them stay for forever because I wanted too. Actually I wanted to be a animal welfare advocate but I don't know any institution I can join in to save animals. Please, adopt them. They are in good hands when they are with you.

omg those babies are soooo cute!!! congratulations on the find... what i would do in your situation is take care of the mom and babies till they were able to find new homes... while I was taking care of them, I would look for the owner and if found bring them to their home. At least you know the brand new babies are taken care of in the long term then. Where as in the shelters and things like this they sometimes put down the momma cat after the time frame and that is just sad!!

Thanks! Not sure if she still has more to give birth to or not, but if she has more, will be posting an updated picture here of them. I plan on taking care of them until the mom cat's owner can be found or the kittens are old enough to give away to good homes. I don't trust the animal shelters around here to do the right thing, since most put the animal to sleep after a given amount of time. Since I believe that eventually all animals would find the right home. I know it's costly and most shelters are only surviving on donations, but I still think the appropriate care can be given even on a limited budget so to speak, just gotta find the right people willing to donate their time and services.

They are adoraable! i have 5 just like them that were born the 17th.. They look the same coloring. Mama is different though. I will have to take some pics of them. she has them in a closet in my room. so it's very dark and quiet. 2 calicos (dilute -beige, gray and white) 1 gray and white and 2 beige and white -like you have there. :)

Thanks! Would definitely love to see the pictures of your little ones, when you get a picture of them feel free to post here if you want. Not sure if momma cat is done with birthing babies, so I keep checking on her every now and than. If I can't find the owner, will be taking mom and babies to be checked out by a vet, than I will be caring for them until they are of the right age to give to good homes. Would just keep them myself, but don't want to over strain the budget I have for the cats I already have.
