Pepsi Pricing

United States

I went to the store recently. There are always "sales" going on, this one caught my eye. In the front of the store was a display. Two 12-packs of Pepsi for $7.00. OK, that means it's $3.50 for twelve. I passed, too pricey. Later, at the back of the store I see two 24-packs of Pepsi for $8.00! Twice as much for one dollar more. That means the equivalent of $2.00 for 12. What's going on here? I checked the "sell by date" then checked the same for the twelve packs up front, same dates. What is the pricing scheme for this?

nothing new. We see this with other products to like milk, paper products (paper toweles, toliet paper). The lager you buy the less you pay. I live in upstate NY and the small localy owned store in my town along with rite aid sell 12-packs for $4.99 the price seems to have jumped over the past year. But now at wal-mart last week and a few weeks up till then 12-packs were $2.50 a pack then it went up to $3.50 still better than $5. But yesterday I bought the cube 24pack for $6 and some change not including tax and deposit. So a lot better in my opnion than at the local store. and if you are woundering haw far wal-mart is from me there are 3 near me all about 20 mins from me. I do not drive to wal-mart just to pick up just pepsi. Altough as I work at a friends house near one I do stop there on my way home just for the pepsi only because its along 1 of two routes I can take to get home that are about equal distance. I swear that they price soda almost like gas. in my area (williamson) I see gas at say $3.84 and if I drive to the west tweards the city of rochestergas prices get lower in some areas and other they are a little hight. They call it zone pricing( pricing a produt based on what they think the economy can support) Poss the price of soda could even be higher now due to corn

I agree that buying more usually means that the price per unit goes down, that's the idea of Cosco and other warehouse stores. But the store I was in was neither and the question dealt more with that within 40 feet of one another the price per unit in the front of the store was 29 cents at the front of the store and at the back of the store the unit price of 17 cents. As for WalMart, I find that they are liars. I can always (underline that) find Pepsi cheaper at grocery stores than I have ever seen it at WalMart. As WalMart states, "ALWAYS." I have often confronted WalMart supervisors (those that stand at those little podiums) with grocery store flyers showing prices lower than WalMart and every time I insist that since I am at WalMart that they honor the lower price. And just use WalMart's "ALWAYS" they always do honor the grocery store price at the checkout counter. WalMart is NOT the lowest price store anywhere all the time, good shoppers know.
