I was wondering who else beside me will be going back to school or at least one themselves. I am going to take mandarin chinese so then I can combine it with my freelance writing. It's a great way to earn more money even though it may not be passive income. I wonder if there are places online for translators that can make passive income like some of the places here where you work on it and then it goes autopilot on earning you money from the work you did in the beginning. I have always been into passive income where instead of working yourself to death, getting something done for the first round and then things will work out better for you in the end. That's how some of the rich stay rich. If you are at school or planning to go to school, what subject are you going to take? What is the degree that you are going for? What is motivating you to take that class or classes? Are you doing this just for you or also for your family? Is the class where you can picture yourself doing for a while of getting trained on? Sorry for all of these questions but it's interesting to know about others, don't you think? That's the purpose on here is by networking and getting to know each other.

Good for you to study mandarin. It's really good to learn another language as you will benefit from it in the future. I am currently in school now and taking up computer engineering. I really like my course and this motivates me to study hard. I think I'm doing this both for myself and for my family. I am really enjoying myself and expecting to get a job soon after graduating.

It's great that you are doing this for yourself. Nobody told me to take mandarin. I just wanted to do it just mainly for me and plus, one of my many goals are to see china with my kids someday. When I was in china, which this was back in 84 when I was 4, hong kong wasn't china's property. It was the British people that did for a hundred years until July 1, 1997 Ever since then, hong kong is china's property once again. I'm chinese so as you can understand from why I wanted to learn it. I know how to speak some but not enough where I can speak with someone with just mandarin. My brother though it seem like doesn't want to learn it anytime soon like I do. He have been to china before and it's somewhat sad that he doesn't want to learn it. I guess it's ok since I am the one that knows it. I am fluent on writing though which I have no prob in that area. It paid off for me to borrow books and copy them down from so many times. My mom is proud of me to know that. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and I wish you lots of luck on getting the job that is your dream to get. For computer engineering jobs, that can be done at home, can it? I was just wondering.

You know, there are independent contractors as well as freelancers nowadays that are their own boss meaning that they get to decide how much to charge whether it's per jobs or per hour kind of thing. It doesn't have to be a bad thing to work at home and thinking that you won't get paid really well. It all had to do with if you know how to negotiate and stuff depending on your experience and stuff. It's better if you are certified or have a degree in something if you can do it at home making money with it.

Yes, I think jobs can also be done at home. But usually work is done away from home and home jobs doesn't really pay very well.

I am currently in school majoring in Psychology. I dont have a degree yet but I hope to one day get my doctorate degree. I am taking online classes so that I can work at my own pace. It is taking me a bit longer than if I actually went to the classes but this way I dont have to be away from my kids. I am going to school for myself and my family. I have wanted to be a psychologist since I was in high school but I am also doing it to provide for my family.

I will be taking classes starting next month. I can't remember what day but it is in the beginning of October. It's funny you started this discussion because I was just thinking I need to get my books and check what day I start. I will be taking computer classes as well as others. I am going for a bachelors degree and I want to major in computer programming. I am not really doing it for anyone other than myself. Really I am doing it so that I can have a good job later in life and have a career. I really enjoyed the computer programming class I took in high school and I decided then that is what I want to do. I always knew I wanted to do something with computers since I was about 14 or so but I couldn't decide what until I took that class.

You might want to check out and see if you might like the idea of being your own boss where you get to work whenever you want. Some positions that have something to do with computers, phones, etc can be done at home. It's great that you know what to do with your life and knowing what you would enjoy doing where it isn't just work to you. Most people work at a job that they hate. I was one of them and ended up quitting in the end. Freelance writing and translation have always made me curious and like doing it so decided to get into it recently but more so with writing since I am not fluent with chinese. Me going back to school with it on working with reading and speaking the language will help me tremendously especially since translators are being needed everyday just like computer programmer. There are sites looking for freelance computer programming. If you like the idea of telecommute from home doing that, look it up to see if there are places hiring online for pc programmer. You'd be surprise. Just a suggestion here. I love computers myself which is why I like doing it with freelance writing and translation. Later and have a wonderful night.

I am currently in school studying Secondary Education, English. At first I thought I wanted to teach English to high school students, but I'm thinking now that I should just change my major to communications so I can follow my dream of becoming a writer. If I have a degree in journalism, at least I can write for a newspaper or magazine.

having that degree in english doesn't just apply to teaching others english when in fact, you can use that degree for being a writer in combination to comuunications. One lady on here have a degree in english and using it with her proofreading business that she got going on. She chose proofreading since in her opinion, made her more money than just writing. You ever read that one posting about this one lady on here who have been a freelance writer for 7 years where she finally got a big project for $5k usd which is $5 each page that she works on.

I am currently an taking an online class to finish the generals needed for an AND (Associate Degree in Nursing)program. I will be starting in January so long as I get accepted. I should not have a problem with this as I have a 19.5 on a possible 20 pt scale for entry into the program. The motivation is that it is the only thing I know that I can do that pays really well and is flexible enough for me and my family. I want to be able to spend time with my kids but want to make alot of money for my time. Pays in my area for nurses are ranging from $18-$40 per hour depending on the job, hospital, location and shift you are working. I know some that are making $35 per hour and are only working 2 days per week. I also wanted a job in which I could help others and make a difference and I also find it interesting. I can definately see me doing this for a long time to come. There are so many opportunities and different areas that you can work. It is unlikely that I would become bored with it.

That's what I like about online classes. You get to decide what time everyday to take it at home and where you wouldn't end up missing your own family but because I wanted to take in my local area doesn't have that option for me, I have to be away from the house twice a week for a few hours. It's time for me to work on what I wanted to do for a long time and when I am all done with it, I am hoping that I would have total confidence that I would use it to combo it with my freelance writing. Translators nowadays are needed more than ever which is one of the reasons why I would like to get into it and since I have been learning on my own for a long while with writing more than reading and speaking, I thought having a teacher would benefit me in the end since I would be able to get some feedback from my teacher if am saying something wrong or right. Pronounciations are very important in chinese as well as in any kind of language in order to communicate better. As long as it is flexible where it can work around your schedule, just go for it to go after what you wanted. I believe life lets us have endless possibilities in order to motivate us with whatever we have going on. I grew up speaking cantonese and I don't consider myself fluent which my major goals are to be fluent in cantonese and mandarin like my mom is. That would make me very happy. I wish you the best of luck.
