Has anyone had a slipped disk? What did you do about it? Have you ever had a nerve block? I had one yesterday. My MRI showed that I have 2 cysts around the disk. My doctor says this is highly unusual. Leave it to me, to be different! So far, I feel ok and am hoping this will alleviate some of the pain. I can't take pain medication because it started causing kidney failure and ulcers! I can't win!!! Can anybody commiserate with me?

I can most definatly commiserate with you, in my experience ther is no pain worse. I had a herniated (slipped) disk that cause me to have pain right down my leg, I could not walk with my foot to the floor and I had a significant lean to the left. I had tried bed rest, various medication, osteopathy, accupuncture, phisiotherapy but nothing healed my problem. Eventually I was admitted into hospital where they gave me an epidural, nerve block and steroids into the back, but alas this did not help either. After a while more my Doctor got me into a specialist neuro surgical ward at a specialist hospital a couple of hours away form home. I stayed there for 2 weeks and eventually they decided to operate. I had a microdiscectomy/laminectomy to remove the damaged disk, during the surgery they also discovered I had 2 vertebra fused together. I am told that surgery really is a last resort for back problems so they will exhaust all other options first. If you can't take the medications I recommend a good Doctor and a visit to an osteopath for some heat treatment. Best of luck, I know it can really get you down.
