Role of religions in the Indian subcontinent

In the Indian subcontinent religions have been given with an important role to focus on and maintain the relations among the people. Sometimes it appears that a section of the persons in the services for humanity in the spheres of religions do not have enough of the milk of fine humanity, otherwise such loss of life and property to hold the religions high would not have occurred. Under this background do you not consider it right to introduce religion as a subject in the academics ?
