What's the one thing you miss from another country?

French rotisserie - Chickens cooking in a French market.

You know that one thing you've seen on your travels, got back home and said to yourself "I wish we had that here". Could be anything; TV show; fruit; snack; drink; the colour of the banknotes... well anything at all. One thing I miss, is the rotisserie ovens at French markets, where they cook chickens and below are potatoes cooking in the drippings.

Hi MooMan, I've visited a number of countries, and there are a few that have left a lasting impression on me. I missed the beef noodles and tomyam from Bangkok, Thailand; Tony Ramos (spareribs) from Los Angeles, US; salty soya drink and papaya milk from Taiwan; shopping markets from HongKong; savoury baked fish from Jakarta, Indonesia.

I lived in Toronto for a while and I must say that I miss the food over there! It was really expensive to eat out all the time, but all the food tasted so good! I think it's a combination of the weather plus the way the food was prepared. Here in the Philippines we have a lot of good restaurants as well but I really miss the food festivals in Toronto. I also want to visit the groceries over there. The selection is greater and the prices are comparable.

I think I'll have to go to Toronto again, I went when I was younger but don't remember much.

I miss real Jamaican Patties, Ting, warm dry early tropical mornings and the serenity of being in the Islands...From Canada I miss Canadian ciggies, Oh Henry bars, REAL Smirnoff Twisted (its vodka not malt over there), Kelseys on the Hill, Ruffles BBQ chips which are way better than the flavouring they use here in the U.S..

They have different flavouring, bit odd. I guess one country must have band something in them.

My last trip was this summer when I went to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. I thought that the beaches near to Riga, the capital of Latvia were amazing. They had wooden benches on the lovely sandy beaches. They also had rubbish bins. Therefore the local people were happy and comfortable. The beaches were clean and tidy. I wish that my country put seats and rubbish bins on our beaches. I love to travel by train and think it is my favorite way to travel. In mainland Europe I sleep in budget style sleeping compartments but we only have expensive sleeping compartments here. I miss the great train service that I have experienced in mainland Europe. I miss having high speed trains and the simple fare system that Germany has.

I've only used the trains in the UK, and they I still don't understand how the same journey can cost £30 or £100, and 2 single tickets cheaper than a return.
