Do you become so engrossed in reading that you lose track of time?

Reading I have to say is definitely one of my favourite pastimes! If I find a good book that I really love, then I could read for hours on end and the time would just slip by. When reading a good book you must not forget the comfortable armchair!! That is a must if you are going to become totally engrossed within a book! What books take your fancy? I tend to go for books that take me places whether they be travel books or fiction books relating to myth and adventure. I'm sitting in my favourite armchair, I have the windows open, the sun is shining and there is a slight breeze shifting the net curtains, not forgetting the strong brew as I indulge in pure escapism. I love the page turners! You just cannot release the book as you are excited to know what happens next. Anyway, reading! Does it take over most of your day? Andrew

Some times I do and I dont need a comfortable arm chair to be so engrossed. All I need is a good book whether fiction or non foction. A good book can make me lose track of time.

Hi, that's good. I could not live without a comfortable armchair! But, yes, a good book is like entering another world for a short period of time. Many thanks. Andrew

I love reading page turners too, like you said you can not drop the book as you just can't wait to read what happens next.Whenever i have the chance i just sit on my rocking chair and begin to read. I do enjoy reading that i get so engrossed in it.

I don't have quite much! I enjoy responding more than starting my own. Yes, sometimes i do fall asleep on my rocking chair, reading for me is relaxation too. So, whenever i am done with my chores and have got only a few hours, then i just turn to reading to get the rest i need and at the same time enjoy. Thanks, have a good night!

That sounds really nice, the rocking chair I mean! I could almost fall asleep reading in a rocking chair! Reading for me is just something to take my mind away from things, I enjoy that a lot. Anyway, thanks for your response. I will try and look in on some of your discussions. Andrew

I tend to go for dramatic books where there's lots of action. I don't get a chance to read much unless my son is in bed, so I'll plan to read for an hour or so then do some chores, or go to bed. Then it'll be hours later, and I'll realize that I'm still trying to get to a good stopping point. I usually can't find a good place until the book ends!

That sounds quite positive. I have read some action packed books in the past like Treasure Island, one of my favourites. I like some of the political spy books too, lots of adventures in those. I guess life has certain responsibilities! It sounds as though you have it under control though. I'm single and so, I guess I have a lot of time to myself. Many thanks for your thoughts. Andrew

I not only lose track of time I get lost in the book. I zone out and don't hear anything around me. It used to drive my Mom nuts when I was younger...she'd call for me and I never heard her. Don't get me wrong, I love getting lost in my books. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

I too get lost in books and I absolutely love it! Who says that you have to live in reality all of the time, why not escape into a good book! I'm just about to finish a good book and now the adventure is almost over! I will have to decide what I'm going to read next so that I can continue with my escapism! Andrew

There had been the time when I am so hooked in the book that all I do is read that book all day. It just took me 2 days to finish the book.

That's the good thing about a good book, you become so engrossed and nothing else matters until this book has been completed. I like the idea of entering other worlds through a good book! Thanks for your thoughts. Andrew

Once I was reading, and it was sunny and bright outside. I was so busy reading, and it seemed that only a few minutes had passed, and I looked up from my book and it was suprisingly dark. I looked outside, and it was also quite dark. When I finally looked at the clock, a few hours had passed. I just shrugged and wanted to go back to reading, but realized I had finished the book. : O Usually, I spend a few hours reading a day because I have nothing to do.

That sounds like a very good book that you were reading. Reading is good for you certainly and it most definitely is one of my favourite pastimes. Whenever I finish a book, I look along my bookshelf and decide on what to read next, it's a thrill. Thanks for your thoughts. Andrew

Yes, I do that all the time. I read every chance I get, and I'm always telling myself, "one more chapter, and I'll get up and do something else" . That one chapter always turns into at least two or more chapters.

That sounds like you always choose a very good book to focus your mind on. You may be sitting in the chair physically but your mind can travel wherever you want it to go!! Thanks for your response. Andrew

Most books I read I get absorbed in, but the page sizes are all roughly the same so I can work out how long has passed by counting the pages as I mostly read 1 page a minute. I find it quite hard to read while sitting down as I either strain my neck looking down or my arm starts to ache if I hold the book up. I tend to go for fantasy books which are full of adventures, although I can read other genres easily enough. Sometimes I read throughout the day, on others I just read in the night after I've finished my work.

Hi, yes I certainly understand that about the aching arms and the strained neck! There are times when I have to constantly readjust my position in the chair. I haven't read too many fantasy books in my time but I guess that's the real kind of book that will take you out of this world! Many thanks. Andrew
