Chasing Tail

My dog's quote: "Chasing your tail gets you nowhere". I found this in one of the quote sites in the internet and I suddenly remembered my dog. Funny...my dog always chases his tail and goes round and round and round. What does this mean? Is he just playing or something is itchy in his tail? He usually makes 4-5 spins chasing his tail and he ends up tired and thirsty. Does your dog chase his tail too?

I have no dog but I read an article that if it's a puppy, then it doesn't know its own body well, so naturally it likes to "investigate" he he he... But if it's a mature dog, then there are possibilities why they do this: 1. He is bored. He needs other types of excitement. 2. There's some discomfort around the tail: maybe fleas or irritation around the private parts. 3. It's possible that he knows that the humans laugh when he does that, so he's doing it to make the humans laugh.
