I am in the market for a new laptop. I currently own a Gateway 520m, 15 inch. Here are the things that I want to be able to do: surf the web, play a few online games, do my homework, create & edit my home videos and photos and play Neverwinter Nights online. I am able to all these with my current laptop but it is a little slow for NWN online since they updated recently. Only other things that I would like is it to be is 17 inch but not manditory, I can live with 15 and that it cost under $1000. I have been looking a Studio 17 from Dell, but would like to see what others think or would suggest.

I think what makes laptop slow if its not the network server it is with the files loaded in your laptop. If you have more memory for your RAM that would be possible. I have my Sony 15" with built in webcam laptop. It has 3GB RAM and can be converted into 4GB. Games sometimes makes it really slow, in my own opinion. Hope you can find the laptop that you really want.

If I had a 3 or 4 GB I it would probably solve alot of my problems. The laptop I currently have only has 1GB. That is not alot by todays standards. This laptop is 5 years old though so in its day it was great.

I suggest you buy a laptop by specifications. The best way to buy a laptop is to list down the specs you want, and then try to find laptops with those specs. Then, when you have a list of specs, you can then find the most cost efficient. I would suggest you get a Dell or a Toshiba laptop. They may cost more, but they have really good quality parts and good warranty deals. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, you could opt to buy an Acer or an Asus.
