PCs are just like any other piece of equipment. You have to take care of it. My kids computer is 10 years old. I've upgraded the RAM and HD and have kept it virus free and it still does most anything they need it to do. It is not powerful enough for much gaming but it surfs the Internet and does their homework and IM just fine. How long do you think a car would last if we didn't change the oil and get the tires and brakes replaced periodically? Not long. So I don't think that there is a big conspiracy to have parts fail so you have to buy a new computer. It's just that most people don't do, or take their computer in to have done, regular maintenance.

I think the computer company put something in it so that things start to go wrong after a certain amount of time to make you buy a new one =P Well I'm sure they don't.. But nothing would surprise me these days!

its all about how you use them, i have had the same computer for almost 4 years now, still going strong. i have upgraded it since i bought it, but nothing from the original has had to be replaced at all.
