There is a dream, a promise , waiting for me. With soft sandy beaches, translucent clear lagoons enclosed by house reefs inhabited by a variety of marine flora and fauna and everything else you would expect on a tropical holiday-all within only a few minute's walking distance. Specks of emerald green enveloped by dazzling turquoise waters like scattered beads in the ocean; white powdery beaches, tall palms lean on towards the sea, crystalline white sands giving way to crystal clear waters, shades of turquoise blend flawlessly with deeper hues of blue... That's paradise.

In 2006 I booked a flight to Mexico however a hurricane hit the coastline and so the airport there closed. Therefore my flight was canceled and I got my money refunded. I looked around to find another flight to a tropical location. I was asked if I wanted to fly to Male in the Maldives. I had one minute to decide so I said yes. I borrowed a travel guide book from my local library on the Maldives. Accommodation prices looked expensive. On the Internet I booked five nights at Asdu Island. It was a tiny island that I was able to walk around in ten minutes. The white sandy beach had many palm trees and the sea was aquamarine. The coral reef was stunning and I enjoyed snorkeling with the friendly fish. Many divers stayed at the island and they said they had an awesome time. I took a kayak around the island. I read my books and rested under the warm sun. I had one afternoon on a island where the local people lived. I was bored and longed for some exploring so I had a couple of days in the busy and crowded capital city. That was interesting and great for shopping. I still had another week to go and I had such a difficult time as an independent traveler trying to make arrangements for my second week. I decided to fly to Gan and stay there for a week. It was a magical like flight seeing many islands and the reef. Wow! Gan was an old British airbase and the men had built bridges to other islands. So it was possible to hire an bike and cycle up the chain of islands. It had a huge swimming pool and it offered snorkeling trips. I cycled up the chain of islands, stopping to take photos and the local people seemed welcoming. I was so enjoying myself exploring off the tourist trail. I noticed a beach at the end of the road I was cycling on. So I pushed my bike on to the beach. It was a white sand beach with palm trees and a number of palm fringed off shore islands. I took photos of them because it was all so scenic. I walked down the beach into quite a lonely stretch of the coastline. A man tried to say inappropriate things to me and then attacked me. I screamed and was lucky to get away from him. That was the most scary time in my life. A couple of days later I went snorkeling and the water was rough and I felt frightened. I was nervous for the rest of my time in the Maldives after my terrible incident.

Oh, dear friend, I 'm sorry. There is no ideal world. Here and there, some unexpected things would happen. I have suffered something for myself but I still try my eyes to find wonders. Sadness is too much, we need to treat ourselves well. God bless you. Hope everthing goes well with you.
