ok, so i am sitting here at the computer (obviously) and my husband and babies are in bed, and all should be quiet. but the problem is that i keep hearing things. i know they are probably "nothing" things, but my imagination starts running away with me and i start getting paranoid, looking behind me, stopping to listen every 30 seconds. i know that it's the cats, or just the house making noises, or whatever, but i am a jumpy person to begin with and this doesn't help! lol i am scaring myself silly here! now that i am finally getting tired i am scared to move from this chair! lol anyone know what i'm talking about?

When I lived with my grandparents I was the same way. I would be very jumpy but it was just because the house creeked. All the other houses I had lived in hadn't, but they still had their scary qualities. My fiance and I live in the country with his parents, and while I don't get scared often sometimes the worst time to be scared is the middle of the day. The wind is picking up here, and there is a tree planted by the house (been there since my fiance's parent's bought the house) and it shakes when the wind blows, somehow hitting something against the fireplace and I get frightened. I swear it's coming from some other part of the house, but we have chihuahua's and they can be rambunctious. To be on a slightly different subject, I remember when I was younger and living with my grandparents I used to post on one of my favorite forums that someone was in the house because I truly believed someone was when I was all alone. I was so frightened since this one time my grandmother was home alone and someone came in the house, she didn't see them, they didn't see her, but it spooked me. Oh look at me, I'm sorry if this has scared you! I am sure it's just fatigue and your imagination running away from you. Play music, it always helped me when I got scared. Any kind of noise does still if I'm frightened.

That's one of my husband favorite lines too.

I've heard the "house settling" thing before, and I really think that maybe it would be better said differently. I'm sure your husband could have meant that the creeks are just adjusting themselves after being stepped on or what not!

no you didn't scare me. :) when i ask my husband what a noise was that is his favorite response- "it's just the house settling." i feel like the house is 14 years old- shouldn't it be settled by now? houses really do make the creepiest noises. there have been a couple times that my husband has gone out of town for work and i am here alone with the boys. that never ends good- i either end up calling him at like 2 in the morning telling him i am hearing things, or i end up sleeping in my 3-year old's bed with him. lol i am such a wuss.

Usually that only happens to me when my husband is out of town, so at least it's not very often. I think I start hearing things. It's aweful. I just sit there and think of all the things it could be. Just get up and go quickly!

lol... you just made me laugh. :) i will, too- i will end up running up the stairs and probably tripping and waking the baby up. lol you know something sad... i still turn the lights in the bedroom off at night and then jump into my bed (sometimes)- i used to do it all the time when i was younger b/c i was scared something would grab my feel. and i guess i never fully got over that fear... pretty sad, huh? :)

I got a small lamp years ago that is small and has a stainglass shade. I thought it was pretty. But then I discovered that it doesn't cast much light. And I thought what a waste, but I kept it by my bed because I like the way it looks. And it turns out to be the perfect light to turn on in the middle of the night to see what's going on when you hear those strange noises because it doesn't blind you. Since my huband goes to bed before me about 99% of the time, he will turn it on for me so I can find my way to the bed without making noise. Plus, I have stuff stored in space bags under my bed so I don't have to worry about anything being under there! LOL ---
