2 days ago i was downloading some free software and i install it into my laptop. i disabled my antivirus for a while to make sure the software will not be blocked by the antivirus. after installation i enabled my antivirus back and it detect virus from the software. and it cannot be deleted. the virus infected my C: drive so fast and disabled many process and messing them up. it disabled explorer.exe process and i cannot enable it back. it also disable my computer function and hanged the system. i tried to scan my whole computer and still it doesnt work. lastly i have to make a painful decision...formatting my laptop. all my precious ebook collection are in my documents so they are gone. i cannot backup anything as the virus prevent me from doing anything. so for other mylotters out there beware of the software that you download because it might contain virus

Sorry for your loss. From my experience I have a whole lot of things to tell. First of all DO NOT FORMAT YOU LAPTOP yet; you can still recover your e-books. You can use a bootable rescue disk to navigate your hard drive and recover your file! I recommend Ultimate Boot CD found on this link: www.ultimatebootcd.com. Follow the instruction and viola! It also has some useful tools like malware and virus scanners and I think it is free. Or if you can afford, use Spotmaus's PowerSuit from this link www.spotmau.com/products/package/full.htm it is graphical and more user-friendly. Second. I recommend Acronis True Image Home (www.acronis.com) which is a backup program and it has "Try and Decide" feature which enables you, when activated, to track your activities, so that when anything goes wrong you can reverse whatever you did! Even if you permanently deleted a certain file, you can just "Discard the changes" and you pc will reboot and it'll be restored as if nothing happened. Hope this tip was useful and not too late.

No. If you need a software like that just search in downloads.com for "recover deleted" and there will be about 496 software! I believe most of them is free. Read the reviews and enjoy.

Tough luck my friend. Since that I think you should have one of those removeable hard disk only to keep backing all your data. You should keep it all your data in a diferent place than the C: drive or the operating system. I used to burn the data on the CD if it is valuable just to keep safe. Or you can just buy Mac Computers...thats a lot safer..

Yeah Mac is expensive but try looking at secondhand shop near you just might find old iMac for sales. This only for browsing purposes only. But anyway always keep your anti-virus on otherwise you might end up like before..

I think the best way to fix it is to format your hard drive, install a new operating system and, install antivir.

sorry to here that happened before you format and re-install try a couple of things first. 1 try to boot to safe mode. If this works, then use your virus scanner and scan and clean your system. if that doesn't work try 2 there is an option just like going to safe more only is says boot to last known good configuration. Last thing never disable your virus protection to install a program that has been downloaded from the internet.

sorry brother. I have had problems in the past where free software would slow my computer down I think from what they call spybots and I cannot even mess with free software anymore because that is so frustrating to deal with because there is so many different versions of these things that its hard to put your hand on what it might be if you do deal with free software on a regular basis. I did when I was into sweepstaking and surveys and even fell into the ploy that you could buy some fabulous spybot sweeper or whatever they call them and it would solve all your problems. I bought software online for 50 dollars to get rid of these things and absolutely nothing happened. That was another computer and but with our recent computer were running into low memory because my boyfriend likes using free online gambling sights and you have to download software to use them and when I was doing my homework and he had his game on in another window (the game started in a half hour) all a sudden the computer slowed down so much. I found out it was downloading stuff on the computer! I didn't trust it anyways but i just thought they loaded stuff one time when you installed their software. Thankfully no viruses but I would like to try out more software but to me i just do not know who hands it came from originally even though it says one thing. There is so many backdoors to standard virus protection also.
