Changing of the season

I thought we were just having some uncharacteristically cool weather and it would pass and summer would return til October as it usually does in West Texas, since the leaves haven't started turning, but I walked out the door this morning and the sky turned black with the Starlings that had been feeding on the bounty of the weed and grass seeds in the yard. They are always the first harbingers of fall. I dread their arrival. They don't migrate nearly as quickly as the geese do. They come and stay til they've eaten all the seed s in the area before they move on, and that can take a month or more, and they are noisy! Is there something besides the turning of the leaves that signal fall in your area?

We do see birds flying over but since we don't really have seasons here anymore the calander lets us knoe when a new season is starting. Oh, and the weatherman usually mentions it.
